Role Description

New York Bus Sales, the largest authorized Blue Bird School Bus dealership in New York State, currently has an immediate opening for a Road Mechanic to cover the Albany area and South into Connecticut. This is a remote position based out of your home with access to a company vehicle.

The primary function of the Road Technician is to fulfill the requirements of manufacture recall notices, repair engine, equipment, and body-related components as needed by the Service Department for both warranty and customer pay issues.

General Supervision: The Road Mechanic develops procedures for the performance of a variety of duties or performs complex duties within established policy guidelines. Most assignments are completed independently.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Call customers and set up times to go to location to perform recall, repair or installation.
  • Repair customer vehicles as needed.
  • Keep track of all completed work via work order system.
  • Follow all prescribed safety methods and perform work safely.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Full-time, Monday--Friday, Days.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous automotive experience or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of 12 Volt electrical systems and all hazards related to them required.
  • Cummins, Roush, Ford certifications or experience required.
  • NYS CDL, Class B driver license with Passenger Transport and Air Brake endorsements required.

Requirements

  • Understand oral and written instructions sufficiently to take direction from supervisors, customers, and written work orders.
  • Guide and instruct customers about recall procedures and repairs.
  • Use independent judgment and make good business decisions in accordance with established procedures and policies.
  • Continue ongoing training to stay up to date on the latest knowledge and techniques of the trade.
  • Speech and hearing sufficient for regular professional in-person and telephone communication with customers, supervisors, vendors, and other employees.
  • Read company and industry correspondence sufficiently to understand the intended message and perform the desired work.
  • Write or type sufficiently to make notes and follow through on recall notices and work orders.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with all customers.
  • Be safety conscious and demonstrate the ability to follow prescribed safety practices to prevent injuries to self and other employees.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Manual hand and finger dexterity sufficient for use of standard office equipment, computers, shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, and making wiring repairs.
  • Frequently lift tools and parts weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Occasionally lift over 50lbs.
  • Lift 100 lbs. and over with assistance to make repairs to larger parts.
  • Frequently stand, walk, sit, bend/stoop, climb ladders, kneel, push/pull, twist, balance, crouch, and crawl when access is needed to awkward areas of the bus.
  • Repetitive motion of hand tools is required to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Vision must also be sufficient to make repairs.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle on company-related business such as for travel to/from other facilities, seminars, conferences, and medical facilities.
