UPfit Lead Technician – Field Operations

Position Type: Full-time, Permanent

Location: Remote

Travel: Field-based role with regular travel across Canada and the U.S.

Position Summary

The UPfit Lead Technician – Field Operations is a field-centric leadership development role designed for high-performing technicians aspiring to progress into a technical lead, service management, and broader organizational leadership roles. This position acts as a technical and operational anchor in the field, leading complex UPfit, retrofit, service, and startup activities while developing technical-level decision-making, planning, and leadership capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Technical Duties:

· Act as lead field technician for UPfit, retrofit, startup, repair, and Preventive Maintenance activities.

· Serve as primary on-site authority for complex or escalated technical issues.

· Perform advanced diagnostics and hands-on troubleshooting on HVAC, refrigeration, dehumidification, and legacy systems.

· Ensure work is executed to company standards for safety, quality, and performance.

· Identify field-level risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities and address them proactively

· Conduct on site equipment start-up, repair, and operational verification.

· Document operational/site data, photos, and different technical reports.

· Support engineering and supply chain with component alignment and technical feedback.

Non-Technical Duties:

· Represent the company professionally in all customer-facing interactions.

· Demonstrate company customer philosophy: Fanatical Focus, Front-Line Obsession, See It/Act On It/Own It.

· Identify risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities and escalate when needed.

· Prepare and submit expense reports and all required documentation.

· Maintain effective working relationships with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.

· Participate in review meetings and continuous improvement discussions.

Leadership Development Focus:

· Take ownership of job sequencing, execution, and on-site decision-making.

· Assist in planning field work including materials, access, and scope validation.

· Recommend process or design improvements based on observed field issues.

· Contribute to development of technical documentation and best practices.

· Monitor project expenses, labor hours, and material usage to ensure work is completed within approved budgets, proactively identifying variances and implementing corrective actions.

Secondary Office & Remote Support:

· Provide remote technical support when not deployed to the field.

· Review drawings, scopes, and specifications for field feasibility.

· Prepare field reports and technical summaries.

· Participate in cross-functional technical reviews.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

· Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience.

· Minimum 3 years in HVAC, industrial service, or related technical field.

· Strong HVAC, controls, dehumidification, and electro-mechanical experience.

· Legacy equipment experience (Dectron, PoolPak, Seresco) preferred.

· EPA Section 608 certification; Gas license preferred.

· Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

· Valid Passport for ability to travel between the U.S. and Canada.

· Ability to work autonomously in remote and field environments.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities.

· Ability to innovate solutions and propose alternatives.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and access mechanical spaces (stairs, ladders).

· Comfort working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Travel Required:

Up to 80% requiring overnight stays + additional local travel when possible.
